MAA is all about being in the mountains together. We host events in all forms of climbing - rock, ice, snow and glacier - as well as in
skiing, backpacking, scrambling, indoor climbing and more. The various events are offered by season year-round, and range from an evening to an extended weekend, and some events such as expeditions are more than a month in duration.

Most climbing events are free of charge and available to all membership levels. APEX members have access to all events, and associate members have the least amount of events available to them. RSVP is based on a match between the requirements of the event and the skills and experience documented on the MAA profile of the participant. All events are led by experienced volunteer Event Leaders or "ELs".

General Registration: To join a climbing event, first search our general events calendar, or reference the climbing events on this page. Please carefully read the description. If you are a good fit, please register!

Screened Registration: For events that require certain technical skills and competencies and/or fitness everyone first goes to a waitlist. Using the information in each member profile the event leader will register those that are the best fit for the skills requirements of the event, and they will be notified by email. This decision will be based on the proficiencies documented in each member's profile and the member's self-evaluation.

Proficiencies: Upon prior arrangement, Event Leaders can now evaluate members at all climbing events and training events. Once all components of that particular discipline level (for example "ROCK 1" or "ICE 2") are sufficiently demonstrated this will be documented on the member profile. This information will then be available to the member and for others to view and search as well, if desired. Having this system in place allows our community to monitor itself and provide a common framework for competency we can all rely on when we are choosing team members.
