Mountain Ascent Association is a growing non-profit organization with a mission to provide widespread climbing events, comprehensive instruction and meaningful connection to enrich our community, encourage a life of adventure and foster an appreciation for the natural world. MAA offers a wide variety of interesting volunteer positions and roles for members to help accomplish this mission. Please see below for the complete listing and information. GENERAL VOLUNTEER BENEFITS:

  • Priority RSVP on all events, upon request
  • Retail discount program at Bobcat’s Adventure Sports, MAA full retail partner
  • MAA Membership: comped modified Apex membership for leadership positions (Board, EL, Program Coordinators), and comped Base membership for all other positions.
  • Some positions have many additional benefits, see below

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2 hours per week availability
  • Current paid MAA membership (Base, Peak, or Apex)

MAA VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP POSITIONS:

  • Board Member – In the monthly meeting (in-person or online, currently held the third Tuesday) and through other correspondence, advise MAA officers on general decisions, operations, finances, policy and other important business items. After consulting, board members vote on behalf of the membership to determine the future direction of MAA. CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR ADDITIONAL BOARD MEMBERS AND A CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD.

  • Event Leader - Create, organize and lead official events. ELs have many other privileges and duties, and are the largest volunteer group. EL APPLICATIONS ARE ONGOING AND OPEN. 

  • Internship - Work closely on-site or remotely with MAA officers on various special projects and assigned tasks. Interns will be offered free MAA Membership during their appointment. INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE IN ALL MAJOR CATEGORIES BELOW


EXISTING VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS:

Each of the following existing volunteer programs focus on accomplishing the mission of MAA in a specific and important category. Each program already has a coordinator who functions in a leadership role but has many additional volunteer roles available to share in accomplishing important ongoing tasks. Media Program – Manage, create and post social, online, visual, and video media content

  • Coordinator – CURRENTLY FILLED

  • Media Specialists and Internships – maximize social media opportunities, obtain and catalog visual media, plan and film videos, live online broadcasting - OPEN

Membership Program – service all membership needs, manage membership information, send out member packets, issue refunds, troubleshoot membership subscriptions, contact new members, and follow up with Section Leaders on monthly contacting.

Womens Events Program - encourage, promote and manage official events designed for and organized by women ELs.

Events Program – in coordination with MAA officers, provide long and short-term event planning, manage master calendar, receive and proof event descriptions and information, and post and update all official events.

Stewardship Program – in partnership with other agencies, coordinate conservation events at local climbing areas.

NEW PROGRAMS SEEKING COORDINATORS:

Each of the following volunteer programs are seeking a coordinator to function in a leadership role to accomplish important ongoing tasks. Please contact darren@mountainascent.org or call MAA at (916) 692-0005 for more information or to apply.

  • Fundraising Program Coordinator – seek donors and donations, track donations and hold events to raise funds. OPEN

  • Family and Youth Events Program Coordinator - encourage, promote and general management of events designed for family and youth. OPEN

  • Administration and Logistics Coordinator – assist operations and logistics at the MAA office such as checking in and out gear, returning phone calls, monitoring email, etc. Must be proximate to Sacramento office. OPEN
